Though the lens and camera are important,  it is usually the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures.  The ability to set the scene for the camera, adjust the cameras settings according to the surroundings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the high quality pictures  which are most in demand.
